Andi Irlina M.Hum.\ud \ud \ud This research based on the opinion that English plays a very important role in this world, it is needed for communication, to absorb and to develop science and technology, art and culture. Beside that it has become a compulsory subject in Indonesian school. Speaking is one of the important skill in language learning, because it is used practically in oral communication. To teach speaking skill, teachers’ competence in presenting material plays an important role in teaching and learning process, including their techniques.\ud The problems of this research are what techniques are used in teaching speaking skill at SMP SMIP 1946 Banjarmasin and what factors influence on the application of the techniques.\ud Based on the problems, this research is intended to know some techniques in teaching speaking skill, how well do the teachers apply the technique, and the influential factors on the application of the techniques.\ud The subject of this research are two English teachers, while the objects of this research are the techniques which are used in teaching speaking skill and some influential factors on the application of this techniques.\ud the data of this research are collected through observation, interview, and documentary. All of the collected data are then processed through editing, coding, and interpretation. The data are analyzed by descriptive-qualitative way and concluded inductively.\ud It is found that there are some techniques used for teaching speaking skill at SMP SMIP 1946 Banjarmasin, they are conversation practice, dialog memorization, discussion, question-response after telling a story, games, and English song. The techniques has been applied well. The application of the techniques has been influenced by the instructional goals,, teachers’ competence, students’ condition, teaching facilities, teaching-learning situation, the instructional material and time allocation. All of the factors support the English teachers to use various techniques except teaching facilities, because the facilities which are variable are incomplete
