Advisors: Nani Hizriani, MA.\ud \ud Keywords:Ability and Collocation.\ud \ud This research describes the Students’ Ability in Understanding Collocations atEleventh Grade Students of MAN Pelaihari Tanah Laut Regency in the Academic Year 2012/2013. The problems of this research are formulated as follows: 1) How is the students’ ability in understanding collocations, and 2) What are the students’ common errors in understanding collocations.\ud Based on the formulation above, the purposes of this research are to know the students’ ability in understanding collocations and to know the students’ common errors in understanding collocations.\ud The populations of this research are all of eleventh grade students at MAN Pelaihari, with the total number 133 students that are spread out as many as five classes but the writer takes 30 % from every class. The total number of the samples are42 students.\ud To collect the data the writer uses some techniques: test, observation, and documentary. After the primary data is obtained, the data then is processed through editing, tabulating and interpreting. The method the writer used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative and inductive method to draw the conclusions. \ud The result of this research shows the students’ ability in understanding collocations at eleventh Grade students of MAN Pelaihari with mean score 62,09 and classified into fair category. Thestudents’ common errors in understanding collocationsat MAN Pelaihari is about type of verb – preposition collocation
