Wardah hayati M.A.\ud \ud Key words: vocabulary, reading comprehension and influence of the both.\ud \ud This research describes The Influence of Vocabulary on Reading Comprehension of The Seventh Grade Students at MTs Siti Marim Kelayan Academic year 2012/2013. The problems that should be answered in this research are: (1) How is the students’ ability in vocabulary?, (2) How is the students’ ability in reading comprehension?, (3) How is the influence of vocabulary on reading comprehension?\ud There are two assumptions and hypotheses in this research. The assumptions are: (1) Each student has different ability in vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension; (2) The student’s vocabulary mastery influences their reading comprehension ability. The hypotheses are; (Ha) there is a significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension; (Ho) there is no significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension.\ud The subject of this research is 56 students of the seventh year students of MTs Siti Mariam Kelayan. While, the object of the research is the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the one year students of MTs Siti Mariam academic 2012/2013. The techniques of data collecting in this research are; test, observation and documentary. Then, the techniques of data processing are editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and interpreting. The data are analyzed with quantitative descriptive method and by using inductive method to make conclusion. There are two steps on analyzing data. The first step is to find out the degree of students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension ability and the correlation degree of them; and the last step is to test hypothesis. \ud The result of this research shows that vocabulary of the seventh year students of MTs Siti Mariam Kelayan academic year 2012/2013 are in good level 64.2 and their reading comprehension in good level 60,2. By using Product moment formula, final result shows that rxy is 2445.2. For N= 56, r table in 5% fault is 0,266 and r table in 1% fault is 0,345. It means that hypothesis nuul (Ho) is denied and the hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh year students of MTs Siti Mariam Kelayan academic year 2012/2013. The direction of the correlation is positive and found in fair category
