Therefore, Adverbs is a part of grammar that is needed to help students to improve their writing skill through in learning English.\ud \ud Based on the background above the writer conduct research entitled: "The Mastery of Adverbs of The First Year Students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura Academic Year 2006/2007".\ud \ud The problems are: (1) How is the students' mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007?. (2) What factors that influence the students' mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007?\ud \ud Based on the problem above, the purpose of this research are: (1) To find out the mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007. (2) To find out the factors that influence the mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007.\ud \ud The subject in this research is all of the first year students of Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007 with total of the sample 44 students. The object in this research is the students' mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007 and the factor that influence it.\ud \ud In data collecting, the writer uses some technique as follows: test, interview, questionnaire, observation and documentary. Then all of the data that have been collected are processed through: editing, coding, scoring and tabulating. In analysis the data, the writer uses the descriptive qualitative and making conclusion by using inductive method.\ud \ud The result of this research shows that the students' mastery of adverbs of the first year students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hidayah Keliling Benteng Martapura academic year 2006/2007 is bad category, and it's influenced by some factors they are: Internal factors: (1) students' attention is in very low category. (2) students' interest in learning english is in very low category. (3) students' presence to english class is in fair category. External factors: (1) teacher's education background is excellent. (2) teacher's teaching technique is low category. (3) learning facilities in middle category
