OBJECTIVE: Basiliximab (BAS), an interleukin-2 monoclonal antibody, has shown promising results as induction therapy in liver and kidney transplantation. We compared the efficacy and patient tolerability of BAS and antithymocyte globulin (ATG) in lung transplantation (LTx). PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included 37 patients in two groups (ATG and BAS, respectively). The indication for LTx was emphysema in 62.6% of patients in group 1 and 57.1% of patients in group 2.
