Solid tumors contain non-transformed cells of critical importance for disease progression. These cells form the tumor stroma, including blood vessel and fibroblasts. Being more genetically stable than cancer cells, stromal cells have drawn much interest as potential therapeutic targets, leading to the concepts of anti-angiogenic and anti-stromal drugs.
