Comment dire l’expérience des camps : fonctions transmissives et réparatrices du récit testimonial

[How to tell the experience of the fields: transmissive and repairer functions of the testimonial narration]. Concentration camp testimonies respond to a double need, i.e. the transmission of memory and the restoration of the survivor’s identity. Witnesses accomplish both functions through the development of an idiolect, which they distinguish from the concentration camp idiolect as well as from the idiolect of their reading public. On the one hand, distancing strategies are used toward the idiolect of the concentration camps to enable the restoration of personal identity and in order to facilitate the comprehension of the text by the public. On the other hand, witnesses isolate their own world vision from the one shared by their readers to try to protect their experience from any recuperation by exterior ideologies. The witnesses’ idiolect thus constitutes a cautious movement back and forth between the source-culture of the concentration camps and the target-culture of the reading public. It will be shown that this process also applies to the elaboration of the narrative of testimony.Les témoignages des camps répondent à la fois à une fonction de transmission de la mémoire et à un besoin de réparation identitaire de la part du rescapé. Les témoins ont rattaché l’une et l’autre fonction à l’élaboration d’un idiolecte, qu’ils distinguent du langage parlé au camp et de la langue de leur lectorat. D’une part, l’idiolecte du camp est mis à distance en vertu de la recomposition de l’identité du témoin et en vue de faciliter la compréhension du récit par le public. D’autre part, les témoins isolent leur propre vision du monde de celle des lecteurs et tentent de défendre leur expérience contre une récupération par des idéologies extérieures. L’idiolecte testimonial constitue dès lors un cheminement prudent entre la culture-source du camp et la culture-cible du lectorat.
