The aim of the paper is to show that multibody systems with a large number of degrees of freedom can be efficiently modelled taking conjointly advantage of the symbolic generation of recursive schemes and of the sub multibody system segmentation technique. This approach has been successfully applied in the field of railway dynamics to generate the mathematical models of eleven urban tramway projects. Some numerical results related to one of these tramways are presented and briefly discussed.Anglai
