PURPOSE: Acute hypoxia (transient cycles of hypoxia-reoxygenation) is known to occur in solid tumors and may be a poorly appreciated therapeutic problem as it can be associated with resistance to radiation therapy, impaired delivery of chemotherapeutic agents, or metastasis development.
