Based on the latest leading theoretical perspective in strategy and entrepreneurship, i.e. the institution-based view, this dissertation aims to explain and predict the success and failure of firms in emerging and transition economies (EE&TE). Its main theoretical contribution is clarifying the key attributes of the formal economic institutional environment (i.e., the degree of specificity, stability, predictability and enforceability of property rights and contracting institutions) that influences the firm’s competitive advantage through the mechanism of resources and capabilities investment.(IAG 3) -- UCL, 201
