Being the first theatre for Roman ambitions of hegemony in the East, the late Hellenistic Aegean world is the new centre of gravity of the Mediterranean world, between East and West, from the Hellenistic period to the Roman period. At the metrological and monetary levels, practices inherited from the early Hellenistic period as well as contemporaneous economic, social, and political realities achieve an original synthesis.
