The Nuclear Shell Model represents a cornerstone in the study of the nuclear stability properties, in particular thanks to this model we are able to understand why for a certain set of protons and neutrons numbers (magic numbers) nuclei have greater binding energies compared to the near ones. The model allows accurate predictions along the valley of stability, while for exotic regions, as the neutron-drip line, the experiments performed have shown a rearrangement of the nuclear structure with the appearance of new magic numbers and the possible disappearance of the old ones [1]
