This paper describes a novel edge directed interpolation algorithm. It can reliably determine the best direction to perform de-interlace interpolation. Experimental results show that this novel algorithm can pass all the tough tests in HQV(Hollywood Quality Video) benchmark for interlaced to progressive format conversion and is better than the industry leading algorithms
