Abstract: Microalgae are aquatic plants that are able to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) during photosynthesis; a process where light is converted to chemical energy. The organisms that are capable of facilitating this process are referred to as photoautotrophs. Currently, the world is faced with a crisis of global warming due to the production of greenhouse gases (i.e. CO2) produced at various industries. The utilization of microalgae for the mitigation of CO2 emission is deemed as a sustainable solution since these microorganisms utilise CO2 as a carbon source and that the resultant microalgae biomass can be used to produce value-added products.
