New difference iterative method for calculating the liquid crystal director distribution is presented. This new method is very simple and intuitive and can give accurate results in a much shorter time, and is applicable for various types of liquid crystal displays, such as twist nematic cell, nematic cell with asymmetric pretilt or chiral super twist nematic cell. The viewing characteristic of the liquid crystal display is also calculated with a faster 4*4 matrix method with the FP elimination method
