A novel call admission control (CAC) scheme based on dynamic channel allocation (DCA) is proposed for cellular networks. The scheme combines the advantage of high channel availability of DCA with quality of service guarantees of CAC. Our scheme uses statistical bandwidth reservation for handoff events. A new call is rejected if the probability of the required bandwidth exceeds the available bandwidth by a given threshold in any cell within the interference region. The proposed scheme is evaluated analytically and by simulations. The results show marked improvement over fixed channel allocation with admission control as well as DCA without admission control for a wide range of traffic intensities
