The construction of functional polymers from acetylenic triple-bond building blocks is discussed. Researchers used acetylenic building blocks, as acetylenic polymerizations can afford conjugated polymers that are difficult to access by the conventional vinyl polymerizations. Acetylenic monomers also have high potential characteristics, to become a group of building blocks for constructing functional macromolecules, while acetylenic polymerizations may become useful tools for developing specialty materials.
