Tea leaves, in many forms, are an important part of Myanmar society. Apart from being a favorite food, they possess metaphorical and symbolic value in the spiritual, social and religious parts of Myanmar daily life. There are many types of tea leaves in Myanmar. They are black tea, dried tea and fermented tea. Black tea is mostly used to make tea at tea shops. Dried tea is drunk plain with hot water. Fermented tea is considered a delicacy and is offered as gifts to the Buddha and the Sangha during religious donations and events and is used as offerings to Nat (spirits) as well.
