Tourism is becoming a major driver for economic development in Myanmar since the adoption of a market-oriented economic policy in 1989. Mrauk-U, an ancient capital of Rakhine, has a great tourism potential because of its historic monuments and a splendid landscape. As tourism provides real income for local people, economic development of Mrauk-U can be generated through tourism. Against this backdrop, the aim of the article is to analyse which drivers are responsible for the development of urban tourism in Mrauk-U and which tourism potentials of the cultural heritage town still have to be develope
