Martensitisch gehärtete Stähle mit einem Cr-Anteil von 9-12 Gew.% werden vielseitig in Anwendungsbereichen, in denen ein guter Kriechwiderstand in einem Temperaturbereich von 500-600 °C gefordert wird, eingesetzt. Bereits kleine Mengen an Bor, die zu diesen Legierungen hinzulegiert werden, können einen starken Einfluss auf die Kriecheigenschaften haben. Vorteilhaft äußert sich der Einfluss von Bor durch eine geringere Vergröberungsrate der Ausscheidungen, vor allem der \(M_{23}C_{6}\) Karbide.
