Iron complexes containing chalcogenolate ligands: synthesis, characterisation and reactions

This thesis mainly deals with synthesis and reactions of iron-chalcogenolate- complexes with low coordinations numbers. Most of the results are in accordance to a general scheme concerning the reactivity of complexes of the [M4(SR)4]-type, which is presented here. Starting from Iron(II)-bis(trimethylsilyl)amide two new complexes of the [Fe2(ER)4]-type were synthesized, in which iron is coordinated in a distorted trigonally way. A great number of new compounds and classes of compounds could be synthesized by the reaction of Iron(II)-2,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)thiophenolate with different donor molecules. Depending on the chosen stochiometry and the steric capacity of the donor ligands both the formation of mononuclear trigonal and tetrahedral complexes together with fission of the central Fe2S2-unit and the formation of binuclear tetrahedral complexes without fission was observed. Furthermore a reaction pathway leading to a novel type of binuclear complexes with tetrahedrally coordinated iron atoms, in which the bridging and the terminal positions are occupied by different thiolate ligands, was described. A novel type of binuclear complexes, in which iron has the coordination number five, was also described. In the synthesized complex there was ammonia acting as a donor ligand in addition to thiolate ligands. In the course of the reaction of Iron(II)-2,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)thiophenolate with carbonmonoxide an unexpected product was isolated and characterized. Here all of the terminal thiolate ligands were replaced by carbonmonoxide and also the bridging thiolate ligands were chemically modified. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden schwerpunktmäßig die Synthesen und Reaktionen von Eisen-Chalkogen-Komplexen mit niedrigen Koordinationszahlen untersucht. Es wurde ein allgemeines Schema zur Reaktivität von Verbindungen des Typs [M2(SR)4] vorgestellt, in das sich die meisten Ergebnisse zwanglos integrieren ließen. Ausgehend von der Verbindung Eisen(II)-bis(trimethylsilyl)amid konnten zwei neue Verbindungen des Typs [Fe2(ER)4] dargestellt werden, in denen die Eisenzentren verzerrt trigonal koordiniert werden. Durch Umsetzung von Eisen(II)-2,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)thiophenolat mit unterschiedlichen Donormolekülen konnten zahlreiche neue Verbindungen und Verbindungstypen zugänglich gemacht werden. In Abhängigkeit von der Menge des zugesetzten Liganden und dessen räumlichen Anspruch wurde sowohl die Bildung von einkernigen trigonalen und tetraedrischen Komplexen unter Spaltung der zentralen Fe2S2-Einheit als auch die Bildung von zweikernigen tetraedrischen Komplexen unter Erhalt der zentralen Fe2S2-Einheit beobachtet . Desweiteren konnte ein neuartiger zweikerniger Komplextyp mit tetraedrischer Eisenkoordination erschlossen werden, in dem die verbrückenden und terminalen Positionen von unterschiedlichen Thiolatliganden besetzt werden. Ebenfalls erstmals beschrieben wurde ein Komplextyp, in dem die Eisenzentren fünfach koordiniert sind. In dem synthetisierten Komplex liegen neben Thiolatliganden auch Ammoniakmoleküle als Donorliganden vor. In der Folge der Umsetzung von Eisen(II)-2,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)thiophenolat mit Kohlenmonoxid konnte ein unerwartetes Produkt isoliert und charakterisiert werden, in dem die terminalen Thiolatliganden des Eduktkomplexes vollständig durch Carbonylgruppen ersetzt und die verbrückenden Thiolatliganden chemisch verändert worden sind
