Different studies have shown that several surface parameters important for the following of the soils hydric budget may be inferred from remote sensing. These variables may afterwards be assimilated in hydrological models to improve the simulation of the exchanges between soil and atmosphere and finally the waterflows over the catchments. The ways to infer vegetation parameters from remote sensing data, the calibration of the SAR data in terms of soil humidity and the methodology of estimating soil moisture in the surface layer from thermal infrared data are presented in this paper.
