International audienceDuring the years 1997 and 1998, a field study on transhumance had been conducted in far northern Cameroon. It mainly aimed at collecting and analysing data on transactions that allow pastoralists to settle in rangelands with their family and cattle. Objective of our current study is to see whether and how transhumance is still a way of managing cattle. Transhumance is “the seasonal transfer of grazing animals to different pastures, often over substantial distances”. This transhumance study pays specific attention to nomadic breeders’ migration history. Migration means a definitive move of men and cattle.
