A borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) will be built in a refurbished residential district in Oslo, Norway. The new heating demand for the neighborhood is estimated to be 26 GWh/year. To partially meet this heating demand, excess heat from a waste incineration plant will be stored in a BTES. The stored thermal energy can be used as a heat source in winter. A local heating grid connects the heat storage with a district heating grid. A Modelica model of the BTES system has been created using the results from a design study.
