Background: Comorbidity of mental disorders and substance use continues to be a major problem. To inform the development of more effective interventions for these co-existing disorders, this paper aimed to deter- mine if there are clear variations in the reasons for tobacco, alcohol or cannabis use across people with differ- ent mental disorders.
