The article presents a comparative analysis of the results of long-term fundamental and applied researches to establish the total water consumption and irrigation regime of cotton crops in the irrigated zone of Zakavkazye (Azerbaijan) and Central Asian countries. It is marked their adequacy in determining the water demand of plants and suggested the necessity of transition to methods widely used in the world
