Gears are important machine elements that provide motion or power transmission. Accuracy and quality of work done is directly related to the continuous motion transmission in a machine. Therefore, the determination of faults on a gear and replacing it without stopping the production is important, particularly in gear boxes used in the continuous production lines. In this study fault detection on a gear through vibration analysis is briefly given and results of vibration analysis of a compressor gearbox are also given as a case study. It is shown that vibration monitoring is an effective tool for fault diagnostics
