So far a great number of scientific literature in field of geomorphology is published which deals with sand ripples, especially wave ripples, formed under oscillatory flow. The present work is a review of scientific literature on evolution of wave induced sand ripples. Principles of ripples formation and behavior in changing conditions, as well as classification, migration mechanisms and geometry features have been considered. Oscillatory motion which is responsible for generation of considered formation is explained.
