The 1892 Homestead Steel Strike is one of the most notorious events of the American Labor Movement. While the conflict mainly pitted striking steelworkers against Pinkerton Detective Agents hired by Henry Clay Frick, many townspeople also participated in the event. One surprising participant was Homestead native and Pittsburg Pirates pitcher Mark Baldwin.
