Cocoa plays a dominant role in the economy of Ghana and as a result is usually referred to as the backbone of the economy. It accounts for over two-thirds of the country’s exports and is the most important source of her foreign exchange. With a population of seven million, Ghana is the world’s largest single cocoa producer supplying about one-third of total world output.
