The microenvironment plays an important role in several immunological processes. Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) not only regulates angiogenesis, but is known as a modulator of the immune microenvironment. Modulating the site of transplantation might be beneficial for subsequent transplant survival.
