The Klinghardt Mountains in South West Africa (Namibia) were the site of an important volcanic outburst late in the Eocene or early in the Oligocene. Over a hundred endogenous domes and several lava flows of the coulee type were emplaced: all analysed samples (more than 60) comprise varieties of phonolite.
