With over 1,300 known species, the order Chiroptera makes up about 20 percent of all mammalian species. Due to its sub-tropical climate, the northern part of Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa is believed to have the highest bat species richness in the country. However, the last comprehensive assessment of bat diversity in the region was conducted more than 30 years ago. In 2017 and 2018, I undertook the first detailed re-assessment of the bat communities of the northern KNP since the early 1980’s.
