National audienceThe IRSN and AREVA NC are currently conducting a fire research program to improve knowledge of clogging of industrial pleated high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and develop an empirical relationship fitting the experimental results of clogging of such filters by combustion aérosols. This paper discusses the influence of the filtration velocity, the mass of deposited aérosols per filter area, the diameter and the morphology of the combustion particles and the condensate content of the aérosols on the clogging of such filters. The most critical situation in terms of clogging will be encountered for lower filtration rates associated with particles of fractal morphology and with condensate content lower than 5%. An ...
