Intervención educativa en adultos mayores sobre la enfermedad renal crónica

Introduction: chronic kidney disease is a serious public health problem due to the high risk of death and disability it causes in those who suffer from it, as well as the high costs of treatments worldwide.Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on chronic kidney disease for older adults in the period January-February 2019.Method: a non-observational, quasi-experimental study having a before and after design without a control group was carried out in older adults allocated at Joaquín de Agüero y Agüero University Polyclinic. The sample comprised 50 patients chosen according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and intentional non-probabilistic sampling. This study was developed in three stages: diagnosis, intervention and evaluation. The absolute and relative percentage frequency was used and 15 articles were reviewed.Results: patients in the age group between 60 and 69 years (40 %) and male (64 %) predominated. After the educational intervention, a significant increase (p <0,05 U = 2) was observed in the level of adequate knowledge about the characteristics of chronic kidney disease (70 % vs. 100 %), signs and symptoms (28 % vs. 100 %), belonging to risk groups (30% vs. 100%), complications (16% vs. 100%) and prevention measures (28 % vs. 100 %).Conclusions: the application of the educational intervention had a favorable impact on the level of knowledge of the elderly, undertaking a greater perception of risk and providing tools to prevent the disease in this vulnerable population group.Introducción: la enfermedad renal crónica es un grave problema de salud pública debido al elevado riesgo de muerte e incapacidad que causa en quienes la padecen, así como los altos costos en su tratamiento a nivel mundial. Objetivo: evaluar la efectividad de una intervención educativa sobre la enfermedad renal crónica en adultos mayores en el período enero–febrero 2019.Método: se realizó un estudio no observacional, cuasiexperimental de tipo antes-después sin grupo de control, en adultos mayores dispensarizados en el Policlínico Universitario “Joaquín de Agüero y Agüero”. La muestra quedó constituida por 50 pacientes seleccionados según criterios de inclusión y exclusión y muestreo no probabilístico intencional. Se desarrolló en tres etapas: diagnóstico, intervención y evaluación. Se empleó la frecuencia absoluta y relativa porcentual y consultaron 15 artículos.Resultados: predominaron los pacientes del grupo de edades entre 60 y 69 años (40 %) y del sexo masculino (64 %). Tras la intervención educativa se observó un aumento significativo (p
