End townhouse block with curved facade; The New Town is the central area of Edinburgh. It is often considered to be a masterpiece of city planning, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in stages between 1765 and around 1850, and retains much of the original Neoclassical and Georgian period (the style dates from George I through George IV, 1714-1830) architecture. Its most famous street is Princes Street, facing Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town across the geographical depression (valley) of the former Nor Loch. It largely follows the 1766-1768 plan by James Craig. George Street runs north of and parallel to Princes Street. Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (accessed 7/3/2012
