Museo Cuauhnahuac

Emperor Charles V gave Cuernavaca to Hernán Cortés as a fief, and in 1532 the conquistador built the Palacio de Cortés, now the Museo Regional de Historia de Cuauhnahuac (Historical Museum of Cuauhnahuac). The history museum features a mural by Diego Rivera depicting the conquest of Mexico. The Palacio de Cortés is the oldest extant non-religious building in New Spain. It was begun in 1533. His son Martin added to the palace in the later 16th century. In 1747 it was repaired by Ildefonso de Iniesta Bejarno y Duran. It has been restored since the 1940's.
