Chalcones (1,3-diphenylpropen-1-ones), a biosynthetic product of the shikimate pathway, belonging to flavanoid family are precursors of open chain flavonoids and isoflavonoids, which are abundant in edible plants. They have a wide variety of cytoprotective and modulatory functions, which may have therapeutic potential for multiple diseases, especially as antitumor drugs. Several natural and synthetic chalcones and their derivatives appear as promising anticancer activities. Their chemical structure evaluation will be critical to assess their therapeutic utility.
