This article discussed what is the standard of successful challenge procedure of ICSID arbitrators and whether the cause of a small number of successful challenges is due to the provisions of the Convention or the reluctance of arbitrators to apply external standards, such as Guidelines on Conflicts of Interest in International Arbitration (IBA Guidelines). Author analyzed the interpretation of ICSID Convention as well as practice of challenge procedures in ICSID practice.It was argued that the challenge of an arbitrator in ICSID arbitration, although possible, is rarely successful.
