Under the transition to a socialist market economy, labour relations in China have become more and more complicated and varied with the accelerating privatization of the ownership of enterprises since the early 1990\u27s. In order to adapt to the challenges posed to labour relations, to render labour relations harmonious and to protect the labourers\u27 lawful rights and interests effectively, the Chinese government implemented the comprehensive Labour Code on January 1, 1995.
