Breast self-examination is an early detection of breast cancer.when done since the adolescent age, it can decrease the number of mortalities due to breast cancer. The dissemination of information on the breast self-examination through health education can improve the knowledge of breast examination, which affects the attitude and behavior on the breast-self examination. A preliminary research shows that the female students of Islam Diponegoro Senior Secondary School of Surakarta did not know breast self-examination. Objective: To investigate the effect of health education on the breast self-examination practice. Method: This research used the quasi experimental method with the pretest-posttest with control group design. The samples of research were taken by using the random sampling technique. They consisted of 46 respondents and were divided into two groups, 22 in the experimental group and 24 in the control group. The data of research were collected through observation aided with checklists. They were analyzed by using the Mann Whitney’s Test. Result: The pretest and posttest average scores of the breast self-examination of the control group were 3.08 and 3.17 respectively, meanwhile those of the experimental group were 3.45 and 24.77. The result of the Mann Whitney’s Test shows that the p-value was 0.000. Conclusion: There was an effect of the health education on the breast selfexamination practice of the female students of Islam Diponegoro Senior Secondary School of Surakarta.
