THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE ON THE STUDENTS’ WRITING ORGANIZATION ABILITY VIEWED FROM STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION (An Experimental Study in the First Grade Students of English Department FKIP Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objectives of the research are to identify whether (1) Mind Mapping is more effective than Peer Review in teaching writing organization in the first grade of English Department Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya in the academic year of 2013/2014. (2) the students with high motivation have better skill in organization of writing than the students with low motivation in this university (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and the students’ motivation in teaching writing organization in this university. The research was an experimental study and conducted in the first grade of English Department Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya in the Academic Year of 2013/2014. The total number of population was 149 students coming from four classes. The sample of the research was 76 students covering 38 students of Class D as the experimental class taught by using mind mapping and 38 students of class C as the control class taught by using peer Review. The researcher used cluster random sampling. Each class was divided into two groups (the students having high and low motivation). Techniques of collecting the data were writing test and questionnaire. Before the instruments were used, a try out was conducted to check the validity, reliability and readability of the instrument. After the treatment was contributed in eight meetings, the researcher conducted post-test to get the research data. Later, it was analyzed by using descriptive (Mean, Median, Mode and Standard Deviation) and inferential analysis (Anova and Tukey). Research result shows that (1) Mind Mapping is more effective than Peer Review in teaching writing organization in this university (2) the students with high motivation have better skill in organization of writing than the students with low motivation in this university (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and the students’ motivation in teaching writing organization in this university. Finally, it can be inferred that (1) mind mapping is an effective technique to teach writing organization (2) the effectiveness of mind mapping is affected by the level of students’ motivation. Hopefully, this research gives contribution for the students and the teacher in teaching writing organization. Key words: Mind Mapping Technique, experimental researc
