Architecture and the built environment are constantly interpreted and edited by the skateboarder. Just as architects use their pre-understanding and theoretical knowledge, skateboarders use their past experiences and their 'tool,' the skateboard, to interpret and utilise the spaces and objects of the environment that surround them. The skateboarder constantly attempts "to discover other types of functionality.. ."2 in 'the structure of the city'.5 They 'decontextualise the object' and reinterpret the important issues in experiencing architecture— 'scale and proportion., .rhythm. ..and textural effects."
