Cancer is a heterogeneous group of diseases defined by distinct capabilities, including resistance to programmed cell death, or apoptosis. The Bcl-2 protein family governs the integrity of the mitochondria, which acts as a central nexus of the apoptotic cascade and is commonly dysregulated in cancers.
