The fish reserves in the Arcachon basin are a semi-natural lagoon complex which are suitable for the analysis of various population dynamics problems. We will consider here the population of the shrimp Palacmonetea varians, an important link in the food chain between primary production, the production of meiofauna and that of exploitable species, e. g. bass, eel. Estimations of biomass and abundance are extremely important when one studies the quantitative production of macrofauna in a lagoon system. The methodology utilized (net traps, tagging methods and stock assessment by simple or multiple capture and recapture techniques) is particulary suited to the conditions of the milieu. Our results confirm the important role played by shrimp...
