The use of agricultural manures for marine algae mass production. Thirteen marine algal strains belonging to different taxonomic groups have been grown in different artificial media : two culture solutions used for laboratory experiment (ANTIA and CHENG, 1970) or mass culturing (WALNE, 1970), and enriched sea waters prepared with three mixtures of purified nutrients and nine of agricultural manures Data obtained show that none of the binary or ternary manures support a good algal growth ; cell densities are generally limited to 37 % of those observed with reference medium ("Conway medium"). Mixtures prepared with agricultural nitrate and phosphate (10 N/l P) are more convenient for this purpose ; chelated-iron did not enhance algal growth. ...
