Sea surface temperature and salinity measurements complete the ocean global observation network. Such measurements are installed on research and commercial ships. Observations are now obtained from voluntary sailing ships using smaller sensors. Some of these instruments also measured atmospheric parameters near the ocean-atmosphere interface. The oceanic data from the Oceanoscientific program and from NKE-STPS sensors were validated at the Laboratoire de Physique des Océans (LPO).
