Devenir un dieu : les lieux des funérailles royales hittites

International audienceThrough the study of the cuneiform tablets of the ritual of the Great Anomaly (šalliš waštaiš), i.e. the Hittite royal funerals (Anatolia of the second half of the IInd millennium BCE), I will examine the various locations in which this long ceremony takes place, from the royal palace to the “stone-house”, including the funerary pyre. Each of those locations represents a stage of the rite of passage of the sovereign, who is destined to “becoming a god”. For this reason, the events which take place in those locations will be analyzed in context, in order to determine, if possible, the function(s) of each of those ceremonial spaces. More specifically, spatial movements of the royal corpse (before and after cremation) and of the effigy of the deceased will be examined, since they stand at the heart of the ceremony.À travers l’étude des textes cunéiformes du rituel de la Grande Anomalie (šalliš waštaiš), c’est-à-dire des funérailles royales hittites (Anatolie de la seconde moitié du IIe millénaire av. J.-C.), il s’agira de s’interroger sur les divers lieux de cette longue cérémonie, du palais royal à la « demeure de pierre », en passant par le bûcher funéraire. Ces lieux sont autant de jalons dans le rite de passage du souverain qui est destiné à « devenir un dieu ». Pour cette raison, les événements qui s’y déroulent seront examinés en contexte, afin de déterminer, si possible, la ou les fonctions de chacun de ces espaces cérémoniels. Les mouvements dans l’espace du corps (avant et après son incinération) et de l’effigie du défunt seront plus particulièrement examinés, car ils sont au centre de la cérémonie
