International audienceAccording to Plutarch, Demosthenes had serious speech problems at the beginning of his career that led him to practice a whole range of exercises, such as speaking with stones in his mouth. Even if these difficulties and efforts were considered authentic in the 19th century and by some contemporary historians, we can re-examine those topics from the speeches of Demosthenes himself.
