This study aims to contribute to the discussion on the interplay between the grammatical and the lexical aspect of state and non-state predicates in progressive constructions by analyzing a set of recent constructional innovations in Rioplatense Spanish. The objectives are a) to describe these constructions with a focus on the aspectual interpretations they afford, such as ingressive, iterative, or continuous, and b) to explain the mechanisms of aspectual coercion and the role of markedness in the development of these innovations.status: publishe
